ROCK legend Wilko Johnson is continuing his rousing return to the stage after battling cancer.

His band have announced a raft of new dates, including a stop at Parr Hall on Friday, March 1, 2019.

Wilko was told by his doctor in 2013 that he had late stage pancreatic cancer and had 10 months to live.

But then the strangest thing happened – he did not die.

A doctor saw Wilko playing the Cornbury festival. He was amazed that the performer was looking so well and so referred him to an oncologist at Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge.

It was announced that Johnson’s cancer was operable but with only a 15 per cent chance of surviving the operation.

After an 11-hour operation, a tumour the size of a baby was successfully removed, as well as part of his pancreas, spleen, stomach and intestines.

His miraculous recovery saw him be declared cancer-free in October 2014, the same year he received an Icon Award from Q magazine.

Since then the Dr Feelgood guitarist has returned to the top of his game with a number one album with Roger Daltrey and a sold-out show at The Royal Albert Hall to mark his 70th birthday.

Wilko became one of the guitar heroes of an era with a chop-chord strumming action, known as ‘the stab’.

Following a stint with Ian Dury and The Blockheads in the 80s he eventually formed The Wilko Johnson Band with ex-Blockhead Norman Watt-Roy on bass.
