GOLDEN Square's Dorado Lounge has a vibe unlike anywhere else in Warrington.

It must be that laid back West Country charm.

As soon as you visit the restaurant – part of the Bristol-based Loungers chain – you feel at ease.

Maybe it's the atmosphere with its retro and Pop Art inspired stylings, and a little nod to Warrington with George Formby painted on the wall, that make you want to linger a little longer.

Manager Robynn Hughes describes it as the former post office's home away from home style and as part of that families are made particularly welcome with books, toys and colouring books readily available.

Dorado's menu features hearty comfort food like tapas, burgers, beef chilli, buttermilk chicken, steak frites and mac and cheese.

But the Loungers chain, currently the UK's fastest growing pub company, has gone to great lengths to make those of all dietary requirements welcome with a full range of vegan and gluten free options that aren't just an afterthought.

That made it the perfect stop for my family as Ethan, my four-year-old, has multiple allergies and my wife Sarah is a vegetarian who leans towards a vegan diet.

Jackfruit seems to be all the rage as a meat alternative at the moment so Ethan and Sarah both went for the jackfruit burger as it is free from egg and dairy.

It has a soft and almost fleshy texture so it is a perfect meat substitute, often compared to pulled pork, and with it coming with a full range of sides including fries and coleslaw with vegan mayo there was no feeling of missing out.

Ethan had an adult portion as jackfruit isn't one of the kids' options but wolfed most of it down so it was definitely a hit. It was nice to see him enjoying a meal out so much when a lot of restaurants cannot cater for him very easily.

Meanwhile, I went for the ultimate chicken burger which is a bit of a monster and a must for buttermilk chicken fans.

It was stacked with bacon, cheese, fried red onions and two hash browns so it took some defeating but it was worth it with the crispy outer coating of the chicken leading to a succulent bite.

I also couldn't resist adding some halloumi sticks with a chilli jam dip as a side which perfectly complemented the main, washed down with a hoppy Goose Island beer.

We ordered at the bar and then waited for our meal at the table which again gave Dorado a nice informal feel. We left relaxed, satisfied and very full.

Despite Loungers being a chain every one of its restaurants is a bit different so Warrington can stake its claim on Dorado and it's a great addition to the Old Market Place's growing food and drink scene.
