WARRINGTON Contemporary Arts Festival has teamed up with artist Gillian Hobson and Golden Square shopping centre to create a digital art project celebrating the town.

The work, called Your History of the Future, reimagines key landmarks across Warrington’s 24 boroughs, transforming the familiar scenery into a kaleidoscope of different colours, shapes and patterns.

Members of the community have also been called to help shape what the final piece will look like by nominating their favourite places around the town.

Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival is an annual celebration that takes place in the autumn. However, in 2017 the festival secured funding from Arts Council England to extend the festival across the whole year, resulting in a wider number of events.

Gillian Hobson’s Your History of the Future will be on display in Golden Square from July 7 to August 31.

Ian Cox, director of Golden Square shopping centre, said: “We’re extremely excited to see the final film showing the public’s favourite locations and we can’t wait to open the unit for Golden Square shoppers to enjoy the town’s unique piece.”

Gillian Hobson added: “Our experience of environment informs us, but can also inspire us to envision fresh ways to appreciate, experience and imagine. I’m delighted to be working with WCAF and looking forward to discovering more about this important area and its residents.”
