WINSFORD’s Conservative candidate will not support a coalition with UKIP after the General Election.

Labour’s Eddisbury candidate, James Laing, had called on the Conservative candidate for Eddisbury Antoinette Sandbach, to reveal where she stood on a potential coalition with UKIP.

In a letter addressed to Ms Sandbach, Mr Laing said that if Labour go against their word and form a coalition with the SNP, he will resign his seat.

He said: “Whilst the Labour Party is campaigning to win a majority in the House of Commons, in light of the polls and speculation on a hung parliament we have made it absolutely clear that we won't form a coalition with the SNP.

“I would additionally like to make it totally clear that if Labour do not keep this promise and there are SNP ministers in a coalition government with Labour, if elected as MP for Eddisbury I will resign my seat and force a by-election.

“Will you, as the Tory candidate for Eddisbury, make the same commitment to voters and categorically rule out a coalition with UKIP, will you commit to standing down and forcing a by-election if UKIP ministers are in a coalition government with your party?”

In her response Ms Sandbach said she would not support any coalition with UKIP, and questioned whether Labour would stay true to their word and not negotiate a deal with the SNP.

She said: “As for UKIP, I won't do deals with UKIP but given Labour's previous promises about a referendum on the Lisbon treaty.

“I don't trust Labour's statement on the SNP and neither should anyone else.”

Ms Sandbach said she was ‘so proud to have been selected to stand for election’, and said she will make Winsford's ailing town centre a priority if she is elected.

She said: “Unlike you I have been out on the doorstep in Winsford for days since I have been selected, and what my constituents are concerned about is regeneration of the Town Centre.

"That is something that I will be focussing my attention on if elected.”
