WAR heroes could see their legacy live on after Winsford Town Council requested a number of new roads on a major new development be named after them.
The council have asked Cheshire West and Chester Council for ten roads around Whitegate Place, Winsford, be named after soldiers who died during the first five months of the First World War in 1914.
The council has also asked for the ‘spine road’ of the development to be named after James Clarke VC, the only person from Winsford to be awarded the Victoria Cross.
Town Clerk, Alan Warburton, said: “Over the course of WW1, 247 young men from Winsford lost their lives in the conflict, and the Town Council feels it would be fitting to recognise the first of those during this centenary year.”
The full list submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council are as follows: James Clarke VC, Henry Hough, Albert Mcluskey, Thomas Tighe, William Curzon, William McDean, Nathanial Gregory, James Noutch, Frank Heath and Joseph Peach.
